Koningen ART is alive and kicking. After 5 months of packing, shipping then of course unpacking, we are now ensconced in the authentic and delightful community of Yarraville, Melbourne Australia. Property hunting took 2 months, unpacking took more than that, but, then there were over 150 paintings plus the works on Paper. It’s been easy to slip back into life here – language of course makes a huge difference. As we lived here some 20 years ago we know our way around Melbourne and simply love this fabulous city.
We came back to be near family & friends but, more importantly, to play a part in our small granddaughter Chloe’s life. Svein was greatly influenced by his own Dutch grandparents in Amsterdam, with visits to the Rijksmuseum as a wee 4 year old. He had a very strong pull to be involved with this gorgeous little girl who is now a regular visitor to the studio, sharing brushes and chatting away. Svein’s parents left the extended family behind, bringing the him to Australia when he was only seven, and although the family visited often, life without grandparents was a loss to the young Koningen. Svein wants ensure he is totally present for Chloe (check out her first studio experience).
Some 5 months after arriving in Australia, the studio is now open and the living gallery space is looking fabulous! The paintings have taken on a new life here. The space, the light the energy lift the paintings off the wall! Is like having completely new works! Svein has been flat out setting up huge storage racks, organising the studio and generally unpacking and setting up. We are thrilled to announce two new paintings from the studio, which is housed separately to the living gallery.
It was challenging to find the place to be after living in Brugge. We are delighted to have found the perfect space and to be so close to Yarraville village. It’s one of Melbourne’s most authentic villages with a truly European essence of fabulous cafes, boutiques, book shops along with places to just sit and hangout. We fell in love with the area on previous visits to Australia and are delighted to be living just a short walk or drive to the village. If coming Melbourne it is worth a visit!
The journey to Brugge was over 12 years ago and it was somewhat daunting to leave our life in beautiful Brugge. Coming back home we had in mind what type of space we wanted and it seems the universe was listening.
The art is now ready, the space is now ready so please come visit.
We are open for business. Launch DATE to friends and art lovers!
